Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) is currently seeking feedback on a newly proposed Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) as part of their Migration Strategy. This list outlines three visa pathways based on salary ranges:
The Specialist Skills pathway for jobs paying over $135,000.
The Core Skills pathway for those in the middle salary range.
The Skills in Demand pathway for positions earning less than $70,000.
This consultation targets the Core Skills pathway, which encompasses jobs offering a median salary between $70,000 and $135,000. The draft list is informed by an analysis of the labor market, focusing on ANZSCO Skill Levels 1-3. It's important to note that some jobs outside these salary ranges might be included. The draft list has been updated to reflect the 2022 ANZSCO standards, incorporating new and emerging job roles based on the latest labor market data.
JSA emphasizes that this list is still in draft form and will undergo further refinement through surveys, submissions, and discussions until the submission deadline on May 10, 2024. For more details, interested parties can visit the JSA website, which provides lists of occupations likely to be included or excluded, as well as those requiring further consultation.
Regarding State and Territory Updates:
Tasmania is currently restricting its Registration of Interest (ROIs) for Subclass 190 nominations to only those with a Gold Pass due to high demand. They plan to reopen nominations to all eligible candidates with the start of the 2024-25 program, expected in July 2024. However, there are no restrictions for Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional visa nominations at this time.
South Australia has announced a deadline for employers to apply for endorsement under the South Australian DAMAs, with a cutoff at 12 pm on March 27, 2024. Employers interested in sponsoring skilled migrants post-deadline are advised to express their interest via email, awaiting further updates on DAMA extensions.
The Australian Computer Society (ACS) has postponed the launch of its new Migration Skills Assessment portal to April 2024. This portal promises faster processing, the ability to apply for multiple ANZCO codes at a fixed price, clearer application guidance, and real-time tracking through a new dashboard. Applicants who have not yet paid their fee are advised to complete their applications by April 15, 2024.
New South Wales has updated its requirements for the Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional visa under Pathway 1, effective April 3, 2024. The new criteria reduce the required employment duration with a single regional NSW-based employer from 12 to 6 months, aiming to make the pathway more accessible to skilled workers in regional NSW, thereby supporting the local economy and development.
Remaining Criteria:
Employment must be with a single regional NSW-based employer working from an established business premises in regional NSW.
The role must be in the applicant's nominated (or closely related) occupation.
The occupation must be deemed skilled by NSW.
Applicants must be paid a minimum of the TSMIT salary level of $70,000 (prorated if under 38 hours per week) from their qualifying employer in the nominated (or closely related) occupation in the 6 months immediately before applying.
Important Reminders:
Skilled employment must occur after NSW deems the applicant skilled in their occupation and must appear in their SkillSelect EOI.
Applicants must lodge their visa application onshore and must not have a current visa application being decided by Home Affairs for a permanent visa.
